Myrtle Beach Computers PcRx is fortunate to have a guest blogger today, Jeanne Kolenda with Get Local Business Online. Jeanne has some great observations about online data security and we agree with those observations.
Data Security is on everyone’s mind these days. And it ought to be! It used to be that using your computer was kind of an add-on thing to do – after all, you had a good paper trail, boxes of old documents in storage, and file cabinets loaded with everything you needed to depend upon if your computer went ZAP! and you lost everything you were working on.
But today, it’s a different story. I dare say our lives are on our computers. I’m just sitting here thinking of all that’s on my hard drives…
Family pictures
6K emails with all sorts of critical data (a virtual record of my daily life)
Passcodes to everything imaginable
My Accounting software
Customer records
Receivables
Banking Info
Courses I’ve purchased
Courses I’ve written
Videos
Music
Power Point presentations
Excel spreadheets
And the list goes on…
If you think of all that’s digitally stored in your life, what would it look like?
Scary, huh?
WHAT’S YOUR PLAN?
All that being said, what’s your plan to keep all this information secure?
Here are some options – think about where you are.
You don’t have a plan (bad idea) but you’re hoping for the best
You backup to another hard drive or some USB jump drives
You have a zip drive system where you actually remove the data from the location
You have an inexpensive off-site backup plan
You have your own customized backup plan with an off-site company where you have tested the plan, you have personal communication with the company, and you sleep well at night.
I suppose right away you can see that I believe in option #5. Check with the professionals at PCRx for a backup plan that fits your needs.
